Scott Serendipity! I'm also in my 60s and just yesterday purchased a red NC700x! I was in the shop, test riding a 650 Versys and 650 Vstrom when I suddenly noticed the NC700 unceremoniously displayed in the showroom. I was immediately drawn to it's narrow profile, very different from the bulky counterparts. And like you, it didn't take long into the test ride to fall in love with that low center of gravity and stunning torque. It just feels great...a far cry from my 1972 BMW R75/5 (which I bought new in '72)!

Just Got a New Red NC700XE

Got it yesterday, new 2014 with zero miles at a good price from the Honda dealer. 1 minute into the test ride I decided to buy it. Previous bike is a 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 which I like but it's WAY too top heavy & I can no longer pick it up if I drop it. It made sense at 50, not at 62. I'm not young, strong & patient. The NC is so much easier to roll around, feels more like a 250 because the weight's down low. NC is also much more nimble & has better low-end torque. Fun bike! I'd be on it now but it's raining. Anyway I ordered some Grip Puppies & neoprene fork gators. Used both on the Suzuki for years. I'll be catching up on owner's experience & knowledge of this bike in the days ahead & hoping for the rain to stop. About me; riding motorcycles since 1973 & this is bike #8 .
